I
was nervous about today. Mainly because for part of the route Chris had
drawn his own road on the map in pencil under the pretence that he
thought he'd seen it on google earth when we had Internet. The 'main'
road we were on was already disintegrating in places and was empty save
for the odd moped or minivan. A bad sign.
Chris
got another big spider on his head getting out of the trees and we set
off in thick mist. Thankfully the tarmac continued although it did
deteriorate in quality as we followed it down a valley through lots of
little villages. At the turn off where Chris had drawn the road on it
turned into a mud track. Thankfully it was a sunny day. We climbed a
steep hill through tea plantations and passed the school run coming the
other way (mainly Dads with children on the back of mud splattered
mopeds). Over the pass we started to look for a camp spot (there were no
towns for miles). Unfortunately every time Chris thought he'd found a
place, a person would appear. There seemed to be an awful lot of people
in the bushes near this tiny track! Eventually an hour and a half later
he found a deserted old road and after 100m of bushwhacking through the
undergrowth we found a perfect little flat clearing and settled down for
the night.
